The River Trail

The River Trail – Phase I

Phase I of the River Trail is a 3/4 mile jewel located right in downtown Sylvania and easily accessible from either Main Street or Monroe Street. Completed Phase I of the Trail has become a downtown community destination. The scenic walkway runs along Ten Mile Creek from Main Street between Root Learning and the Wingate Hotel to Harroun Road. It passes through the SOMO district and is adjacent to Harroun Park on the south and Monroe Street on the north. The trail borders the north branch of Ten Mile Creek and the mouth of the Ottawa River. Phase I cost $1.3 million with over $600,000 coming from grants.

Phase II of the River Trail project will run along the north side of the Flower Hospital campus, cross the Ottawa River, run under the US-23 expressway and exit out to Monroe Street. The highly anticipated addition to this project will increase the total length of the trail to 1.5 miles and include improvements such as elevated walkways, new bridges, and landscape beautification. Phase II will cost just over $2 million with $850,000 coming from grants and $400,000 coming from ProMedica Hospital contributions over the next five years. Site completion is anticipated by the spring of 2018.
